I feel the Game Awards have gone the way of the Academy Awards. Where there is a disconnect between what customers and the general public likes, and what journalists and critics like.
Even though The Trash of Us Part Poo won Game of the Year, I was super happy to see Ghost of Tsushima win the Player's Voice Award; the only award that matters IMO.
It really shows the passion and fun gamers had with Ghost of Tsushima....and how much they HATE Neil Druckmann. Druckmann's The Ass of Us Farts Too probably would have won both awards, if he didn't act so smug and unprofessional. Compare the TWEETS by Druckmann and the Hades dev when asking fans to vote. Druckmann deleted the tweet and apologized, but the damage was done.
Even if you enjoyed The Last Jedi of Us Part 2 and think it deserved to win 1 or 2 awards, there's no way it deserved to win 7 NOMINATIONS. Including:
- Game of the Year
- Best Game Direction
- Best Action Adventure
- Best Narrative
- Best Audio Design
- Innovation in Accessibility
- Best Performance ( 2 Nominations for Ellie and Abby )
Majority of gamers agree games like Doom Legacy, Hades, Animal Crossing, FF7: Remake, and Ghost of Tsushima got robbed this year. It didn't feel earned; like the awards were bought for by Sony and Naughty Dog.The Last of Abby Anal Part 2 is so divisive, it scared a lot of fans from buying it; like me. Plus, besides the pretty graphics, it did very little to innovate on the gameplay of the original game.
Besides my complaints about The Joel Golf Meme Part 2, the Game Awards still feels like they rush through a lot of nominations; some of them happened during the pre-show! they really need to fix that. Plus, award shows really don't feel as exciting without a live crowd. I understand it's all for COVID safety concerns, but it's just not the same when everybody is hosting through web cams.
But what did you guys think of the Doritos Pope Awards 2020? Did The Last Angry Woman Part 2 deserve to win so many awards?
Were there any interesting highlights or trailers you liked? I thought the teaser for the Ark: The Animated Series looked really interesting. I was surprised to see the Dead Space devs are making a new horror game called The Callisto Protocol. The trailer for It Takes Two made me laugh HARD.
And yes, I did notice that robot bunny girl for Rocket League: Season 2.
Imperfect-XIII
I liked the trailers for The Callisto Protocol, Open Roads, Season, Ark 2, Evil West, and Scarlet Nexus.
Sephiroth announced for Smash Ultimate was also an eye-opening surprise.

Season and Open Roads had beautiful animations styles, which I hope are reflected in actual gameplay, whenever they showcase it. Evil West looks fun; always happy to see more Western-theme games besides Red Dead.
Including Sephiroth in Smash was worth that really dark Mario moment. It made me go, "HOLYSHIT!" O__O'
